Vegan Cookies that Make You Say Om Nom Nom

This week’s spotlight is on Om Nom Nom vegan cookie company. This local start-up company is the brain child of Anthea Ponsetti and has been in existence for a little over a year. The name may sound familiar because this cookie has been making its way around the block. Om Nom Nom cookies are currently being sold at several places through out south Florida, including Panther Coffee. They’re also being sold in Denver and in due time they’ll be available in California and throughout the east coast. This is definitely a start-up company on the rise, but how did it all start? Well Anthea was kind enough to meet with me and give me the chisme.

Anthea, from both English and Spanish roots grew up a meat eater and at the age of 18 made the jump to vegan. Anthea has jumped between vegetarian and vegan for the last 15 years and says she feels healthier for it. Anthea received formal culinary training at the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale’s culinary program and has been the director of a culinary program in a local Montessori school. At the urging of her sister to start selling her delicious cookies, Anthea took a chance and started Om Nom Nom (the name was also her sister’s genius idea). If running a start up company isn’t enough, this busy bee also teaches kid’s cooking classes at the Miami Children’s Museum.

So what does Om Nom Nom got cooking up? Well as they plan their vegan takeover, Anthea is hard at work in the kitchen working on new recipes. The company currently has six cookie flavors for sale including, Ultimate Peanut Butter, Chocolate Chip, Orange Zested Chocolate chip, Chocolate Snickerdoodle, Cranberry Walnut Oatmeal and Spicy Mexican Snickerdoodle. Be sure to keep an eye out on upcoming flavors some of which will be a Lemon flavored cookie and a Panther Coffee infused snickerdoodle. Also keep an eye out for future projects such as a glutenfree line of goods, non-profit partnerships towards charity and brownies.

Now you may be asking, “Pero like… they’re vegan… are these cookies any good?!” To which my answer is, “Mija/Mijo, these cookies estan super delicious, no tengas pena!” I was lucky enough to get a chance to try all six of the current cookie line up and they’re all great. My personal favorite is the Spicy Mexican Snickerdoodle, it has a subtle spicy kick that hits you in the back of the throat. Also check out the Orange Zested Chocolate Chip (one of their best sellers), it has a bright orange flavor pop that goes great with the sharp contrast of the dark chocolate. The Ultimate Peanut Butter tastes like a non-vegan, delicious peanut butter cookie and the Cranberry Walnut Oatmeal was delicious especially with some yogurt for breakfast.

Om Nom Nom is also looking for help. If you’re interested in being an intern on their production line or on the marketing end of the spectrum, please contact Anthea. Om Nom Nom is growing but they’re hitting a bit of a roadblock, they want to continue to expand but require additional capitol to make that happen, so if you’re looking for investment opportunities, feel free to reach out and help a local business!

If you’ve never tried Om Nom Nom cookies or anything vegan for that matter, I urge you to give it a try! These cookies are flavorful, great and you’d never even know that they’re labeled “vegan.” Next time you grab a cup of joe at Panther Coffee, pick up one of their cookies and help your local economy thrive.
