They say “everything happens for a reason”… and wouldn’t you know that the Monday following the pageant, I walked into a Publix, flipped through Cosmopolitan and saw that over an entire page of the magazine had MY face on it. It was like I opened up a giant flashing sign that said “SEE?! THIS IS WHAT YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO BE DOING.” That photo is my first big magazine appearance and it’s not just in the July/August Cosmo, it’s also in July Vanidades. I’m sure you’re wondering, “well, didn’t you know you would be in the magazine when you took that shot?” Not necessarily. Let me explain.
When I booked the job, I was leaving Barry’s Bootcamp and walking to my car. I got the phone call and quite literally did one of those terrible freeze-motion side heel kicks… you know what I’m talking about. I. was. stoked. So I show up to my 6am call time the next day and soon enough I realize that myself and another model are “alternates” to one another. In other words, the client couldn’t decide who they liked better for the editorial so they had us both shoot the same looks knowing that in the end one of us wouldn’t make it to print. My heart dropped to my feet. This was back in May.
(Also, as I’m writing this… I just googled Cosmopolitan en Espanol to get a photo of the cover…and found a familiar face all over the website — THAT was unexpected!)
My two favorite quotes have to do with personal journey and it has been the theme of my weekly blog posts up until now — following my journey to the crown. So many of you have come up to me in person or via Facebook to tell me that you enjoyed reading my weekly blogs and I’m so happy to be able to continue giving you all a weekly glimpse into my personal shenanigans (traveling, fitness and wellness, etc) as well as my adventures as a SFF Ambassador. I’m going to start creating Vlog (video blog) content as well so you guys can really get to know me even more. The road to the crown was just the trailer–I hope you stick around for the movie!
