Enter the Fatgirl

I guess I should start by introducing myself; I am Fatgirl Hedonist and I run www.fatgirlhedonist.com.   My site is a dining & restaurant review site that gives you my take on locally owned and operated restaurants in the 305 and beyond.  I’m from Hialeah and proud of it, so with that I warn you that my writing does include a sprinkling spanglish and a pinch of chusmeria. In an attempt to bring to this site some new, original and different content from what I’m already doing on my site, I’m going to share info on upcoming events in the culinary scene, contests, restaurants to keep an eye on and anything else that tickles my fancy.

For starters I’ll share a sampling of some of the culinary events that are going on in the near future with a little something for almost everyone:

For the People That Like To PIG OUT:

What: PALO! Cuban Pig Out 2  is a miami-esque celebration for Labor Day weekend benefiting Life is Art! $10 gets you a Cuban style pork dinner and the Palo show. Check out live painting, raffles, music and fun times. For more info head to their Facebook event page.

What: Second Annual Chefs Upfront Dinner and Auction benefitting the Share our Strength Cooking Matters program, delivered locally through FLIPANY. Price is $200 per person. For the Foodies:

What: Edge Steak and Bar (amazing restaurant) is celebrating National Eat Outside day with a Picnic. Price is $35 for a haute family style picnic including a three course meal and wine.  Better deal than Miami Spice, check it out.

For Those of You With A Sweet Tooth:

What: “Crave the Sweet Life” Dessert Tasting Event $11.25 gets you complimentary food and sweets, benefitting surrounding homeless shelters. Guests are encouraged to bring along food items to donate to the homeless. Check their Eventbrite for more information.

Lastly, I leave you with a sweepstakes.  While Miami Spice is going on through September, Johnson & Wales’ North Miami campus has a little giveaway going on. First, jump on twitter and follow @JWUNorthMiami AND @MiamiandBeaches. Then, you have to dine at a restaurant that features JWU alumni and snap a pic of your meal. Once you’ve snapped that picture you have to tweet it out with the hashtags #MiamiSpice and #ISEEJWU.
