I have a confession.  I like NASCAR. I…like…NASCAR!  In fact, I didn’t even realize I liked it until I attended Ford Championship Weekend.  I don’t know if it was the rush I got from seeing how fast these guys were driving (not to exclude Danica, its just… she wasn’t there), if it’s the loud roar the racecars make as they zip down the speedway, or if its because I recently interviewed Carl Edwards and he happens to be one of the nicest people I’ve ever met.  Either way, the conclusion remains the same, and that’s I like NASCAR more than I thought I did.  With that said, I had the good fortune of experiencing the races in the most awesome way ever.  We started off on Friday night at the Ford 200 Camping World Truck Series, and the Ford Message Ambassador girls joined me! We checked out the speedway then headed down to the track for some very close up action.

We had a blast getting to walk throughout the hot pits and see how everything is done from the changing of the tires to all the preparation the team goes through right before the race starts.  The energy in the pits was crazy, and we had a lot of fun.

When the Ford 400 rolled around on Sunday, I was really excited.  This was my first time attending such a huge race, and since (as I mentioned before I met Carl Edwards and am now a fan), I had someone to root for!

This time, we worked our way through the garages where family and friends of the drivers get together to grill and get pumped up for the race.  Then, we walked out onto the actual track where people gathered to take in the pre-race festivities and check out the racecars that were lined up before the race.  This experience…was awesome.  Me?  Standing on the track of the NASCAR speedway?  Who would’ve thought!  Oh, and I loved it.  Finally, with our pit passes we walked through the pits (this never get old), and you could just feel the intensity of the teams.

Shortly after Michelle Obama declared, “gentleman start your engines” the race got going, and feeling like a little kid… I sat back and enjoyed it.

Now, even though Carl didn’t take home the trophy I still had a great time and can’t wait for next year! For more of our NASCAR coverage, check out the South Florida Ford Facebook page!
